What we collect, why, and what you control.
Effective September 7, 2026. Written to be read by a parent, not only by a lawyer.
1. Who we are and what this covers
Prodigee is operated by Elemental Genius LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Prodigee application at app.getprodigee.com and this website at getprodigee.com. Prodigee is a service for children, used under the account of a parent or legal guardian (“parent”). We designed it to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and to collect the least information that lets the school work.
2. What we collect
From a parent, when you create an account: your email address, a password (stored only as a one-way hash), and a display name.
About each child, entered by the parent: a first name or nickname, age, grade level, an avatar choice, and a learning-style preference. We never ask a child for this or any other information about themselves, and characters are instructed not to elicit it.
Generated during use: text transcripts of conversations between the child and characters (including text produced from the child’s speech), records of which activities were practiced and how they went, and, only when the parent has turned memory on, short notes a character keeps about the child (see section 5).
Automatically: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps, pages requested) needed to run and secure the service. These are kept for a limited period and not used to profile children.
Not collected: audio recordings, video, photographs, precise location, device contacts, or any information from other apps. Audio from the microphone is converted to text and discarded immediately; see section 4.
3. How we use it
- To run the service: sign a parent in, show the right child their school, generate character replies.
- To show a parent their child’s progress and transcripts on the family page.
- To keep the service safe: checking replies, preventing abuse, fixing faults.
- To contact the parent about their account when necessary.
We do not use children’s information for advertising, marketing, or profiling, and we do not sell, rent, or trade personal information of any user for any purpose.
4. Voice
With the parent’s permission, a child may speak to the characters. Speech is sent to a speech-to-text service, converted to text, and the audio is discarded. We do not store audio. The resulting text is treated as part of the transcript. The parent can withdraw microphone permission at any time from the family page.
5. Character memory
Character memory is off by default. If the parent turns it on, a character may store a small number of short notes about the child to make later sessions continuous (for example, a favorite topic or what the child was working on). Notes are filtered so that contact details and identifying information cannot be saved. The parent can read every note and erase all of them at any time from the family page. Turning memory off stops new notes; erasing removes existing ones.
6. Parental consent and rights
By creating an account and adding a child, the parent consents to the collection and use of that child’s information as described here. Permissions for the microphone and for memory are separate and are set per child on the family page.
A parent may at any time:
- review the information we hold about their child (progress, transcripts, memory notes);
- erase memory notes, or withdraw microphone or memory permission;
- request deletion of a child’s record or of the entire account by emailing [email protected]. We will verify that the request comes from the account holder, then delete the data within 30 days;
- refuse further collection by stopping use of the service.
We do not condition a child’s participation on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary for the activity.
8. How long we keep it
Account, child, progress, and transcript data are kept while the account is active. Memory notes are kept until the parent erases them or turns memory off and requests erasure. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security. When an account is deleted, all of the above is removed within 30 days, except where a legal obligation requires longer retention of a specific record.
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Access to production systems is limited to the people who operate the service. Child sessions expire automatically. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting personal information, we will notify affected parents and any authorities the law requires.
10. This website
getprodigee.com is a marketing site for adults. It sets no advertising cookies. If we add usage analytics to it, they will run only on pages intended for adults and never inside the school.
11. Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that affects how children’s information is collected or used, we will notify parents by email before the change takes effect and ask for consent where the law requires it. Questions and requests go to [email protected]. The plain-language version of these rules is on the safety page.
